Personal data obtained and processed

Ghent University processes personal data when making use of our services or because the data is provided by you.  The following data is processed:

  • First and last name, gender, date of birth, address, phone number, e-mail
  • Other personal data you actively supply by subscription to the summer course TRANSFERSKILLS 2019, in writing or by telephone.
  • Bank account number

Special and/or sensitive personal data management

Our website and services have no intention to collect data about visitors below the age of 16, unless granted permission by their legal representatives. We however cannot check if a visitor is part of this age category. We advise parental control when using online services by children,  to prevent the collection of data of children and this without parental control. If you are convinced we have collected such personal data without parental permission, please contact us (see below), so we can remove the data.

Purpose for collection of personal data

Ghent University processes your personal data to obtain the following goals:

  • Payment handling
  • To send you a newsletter or publication
  • To be able to phone or email you in case of service handling
  • To inform your about updates or changes of our services and products

Automated decision making:

Ghent University does not take decisions based on automated processing of data that can have considerable impact for involved persons. This is the case for data that is automatically processed by computer algorithms or systems without involvement of a human person (e.g. an employee of Ghent University).  

For the TRANSFERSKILLS 2019 summerschool, the following system is used: Drupal 8 with commerce 2. Drupal 8 is a free and open-source content management framework written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License. Commerce 2 extends the functionality of Drupal 8 in order to provide purchase options.

Retention time of personal data

Ghent University does not retain personal data longer than strictly necessary to realise its goals (in casu successfully organise the TRANSFERSKILLS 2019 summer school). Unless circumstances necessitate a longer retention time, personal data will be deleted no later than 6 months after ending of the summer school.

Sharing of personal data with third parties

Ghent University only provides personal data to third parties when necessary for the execution of the agreement or to comply to legal obligations.

Use of cookies

Ghent University uses only technical or functional cookies, as well as analytical cookies that do not violate your privacy. A cookie is a small text file that is saved at your first visit of this site at your computer, tablet or smartphone. Cookies saved are necessary for technical requirements, a smooth user experience and to remember some user made settings. They allow also to optimise the website. You have the right to view your personal data, to correct or delete it. You have also the right to revoke your consent for handling your personal data by Ghent University. You have also the right to have your personal data transferred in a file to you. To be sure you file the request, requests will not be considered unless a copy of the identity card  is included in the request. Within 4 weeks, an answer will be formulated based on your request.

Ghent University takes care of your personal data and takes adequate measures to prevent theft, loss, unauthorised access, unauthorised disclosure and unauthorised adjustments.
